Environment Ministry reveals an advanced project that helps speed up technical surveying and mine clearance

    The Department of Mine Affairs in the Ministry of Environment announced on Monday, that the comprehensive mine affairs program includes five main projects, and while it referred to monitoring mined bodies, it indicated the adoption of an advanced project that helps speed up the technical survey and clearance of mines.
     
    The Director General of the Department, Sabah Al-Husseini, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “There is unprecedented support for the Department, as 400 million dollars were allocated from the British loan, of which we received the first installment of 20 million dollars during the current year,” indicating that “the British loan It will be in installments over a period of 4 years, and this is the first time a budget of this size has been allocated to the department.”
     
    Al-Husseini added, "The British loan is allocated to the comprehensive mine affairs program, which is managed by the Ministry of Environment if it is implemented, we need administrative and financial powers for the Minister of Environment or whoever he authorizes to manage this file nationally."
     
    He explained, “The powers are with the ministry and its departments, but we have national partners in this project, so.”
     
    Authorization of powers to support those entities, such as the Ministries of Interior, Defense, Labor, Health, and workers in the national effort.
     
    He pointed out that "the comprehensive mine action program includes several projects, namely the removal of cluster bombs, the removal of mines, the removal of unexploded ordnance, the clearance of confrontation areas, and the removal of explosive devices," noting that: "In some areas we found bodies mined, and these challenges exist only in Iraq".
     
    He continued: "There is also a project for logistical support with modern technologies and new sensors, which can help accelerate the technical survey, removal, and disinfection and increase safety for workers in this field, to achieve our goals with our commitment to the Ottawa Convention and the Cluster Munitions Convention until the end of 2028."
