The Directorate of Military Intelligence announced on Saturday the arrest of 77 suspects in various legal cases and the seizure of a stockpile of improvised explosive devices in the provinces of Anbar, Basra and Maysan.
A statement by DMI, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "with separate operations and tireless efforts, and based on accurate intelligence information of the Directorate of Maritime Intelligence, and divisions of the Basra, Maysan and Al-Jazeera Operations Command and the Seventh Division of the Military Intelligence Directorate, and in cooperation with the security forces holding the ground, tight ambushes were set up in different areas of the same governorates, resulting in the arrest of 77 defendants in various legal cases in the district of Al-Qaim, Al-Majar Al-Kabir, Al-Kahla, Al-Hartha, Al-Shafi, um Qasr district and Abu Sakhir," stressing "the handing over of the accused to the concerned authorities.
"The military intelligence detachments of the intelligence department of the Jazeera Operations Command were able to seize a stockpile of improvised explosive devices containing more than 235 improvised explosive devices," the statement said.
"After searching and inspection, a locally made rocket launch base and several rockets were found in the al-Jazeera desert in Anbar province," it said, noting that "engineering detachments ensured the removal of materials and their destruction on site".
