The World Health Organization announced on Saturday that the violent earthquake that struck Morocco last Friday night affected 300,000 people in Marrakesh and the surrounding areas.
Moroccan television reported that the number of victims of the earthquake had risen to 1,037 people, in addition to thousands of wounded and afflicted.
The earthquake also caused severe damage and caused panic in Marrakesh and many other cities, according to a new tally issued by the Ministry of Interior.
The Rabat-based National Center for Scientific and Technical Research stated that the magnitude of the earthquake reached 7 degrees on the Richter scale and that its epicenter was located in the Al Haouz province, southwest of the city of Marrakesh, which is considered a major tourist destination.
