MOE: A decrease in the illiteracy rate during the current year

    The Ministry of Education announced today, Friday, that the illiteracy rate in Iraq has decreased during the current year.

    The official spokesman for the Ministry of Education, Karim Al-Sayyid, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that, “On International Literacy Eradication Day, the Ministry of Education renews its affirmation to continue its efforts to move towards expanding the area of ​​education for adults, and those who have not had the opportunity to learn to read and write, by raising awareness.” “The importance of education, and attracting them to study places, to reduce the illiteracy rates in which we have shifted, according to the official data of the Ministry of Planning, from 20.5% in 2010 to 12.3% in 2022 through great tools and efforts of the Ministry of Education and the executive body to eradicate illiteracy.”.

    He added, "The Ministry confirms its seriousness by continuing persistent efforts by seeking legislative amendments, to motivate adults towards renewing the opportunity to learn, in addition to teaching them parallel professions, especially for women, and those who have an ambition to change their lives for the better through the light of reading and writing."
