The Ministry of Transportation clarified on Sunday the details of the railway connection project with the Islamic Republic of Iran, while pointing out that the project passes through four stations.

The ministry's Media Office told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “the total length of the Rail Link project with Iran is 36 km, as it will pass from the Shalamcheh border port through the Shatt al-Arab district through the bridge parallel to the Khalid bin al-Walid Bridge and ending with the Al-Qaziza area, which will be the final station".

It added that “the rail link with Iran will be for passenger transportation purposes only, and there is a desire for large and wide visits estimated at (3) million Iranian visitors annually to Iraq, and the project also aims to serve visitors to the two countries of Iraq and Iran for visiting, tourism, treatment and movement between the two countries.

"The general railway company of the Ministry of transportation seeks to build a national network in all Iraqi provinces,” it pointed out.
