Al-Sudani receives Malaysia FM and his accompanying delegation

    Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani affirmed on  Thursday,  the government's desire to provide an opportunity for Malaysian companies to contribute to the construction of infrastructure, while expressing Iraq's readiness to receive Malaysian citizens wishing to visit religious sites and holy shrines.

    The media office of the Prime Minister said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani received, today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Zambry Abdul Kadir and his accompanying delegation," noting that "the meeting witnessed discussions of the overall bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to develop partnership, for the benefit of the two friendly peoples, as well as discussing cooperation in the fields of tourism, religious tourism, diplomatic development, industry and agriculture."

    Prime Minister referred to "a number of cultural commonalities and close positions that bring the two countries together," stressing "the government's desire to provide an opportunity for Malaysian companies to contribute to development and infrastructure construction, and more economic cooperation and facilities provided to Iraqi students on scholarships to Malaysia."

    He expressed "Iraq's readiness to receive Malaysian citizens wishing to visit religious places and holy shrines and to provide them with all facilities," pointing to "the need to consolidate bilateral cooperation, through coordination between the countries of the Islamic world, to deter the rhetoric of extremism and confront abuses that attempt to undermine Islamic sanctities, and encourage the hatred."

    For his part, the Malaysian minister conveyed "his country's appreciation of Iraq's positions and its appreciation of the importance of bilateral relations, and its decision to reopen the Malaysian diplomatic mission in Baghdad," stressing "his country's desire to resume the work of the joint committee between the two countries."
