Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Planning, Muhammad Ali Tamim, agreed on Sunday with the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Ghulam Isaczai, to form a joint committee to follow up work in the field of achieving sustainable development goals.
A statement by the Ministry of Planning, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said that "Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Muhammad Ali Tamim, received the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Ghulam Isaczai, and his accompanying delegation."
The statement added that "the meeting discussed a number of issues related to joint cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations organizations, especially with regard to the preparation of a joint action strategy for the next five years, and the transfer of UN support to Iraq towards development programs, and support for the priorities of the Iraqi government, foremost of which is facing the effects of climate change, providing drinking water, and achieving rural development, as well as discussing the file of the displaced, and government measures to address it completely."
"The two sides also discussed Iraq's preparations to participate in the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development Goals, which will be held in New York next September," it said.
it pointed out that "the two parties agreed to form a joint committee to follow up work in the field of achieving sustainable development goals, and to hold an expanded workshop with the participation of Iraqi authorities, to discuss the general framework and details of the joint work strategy between Iraq and the United Nations."
