National Security Adviser Qasim Al-Araji confirmed today, Wednesday, that hate speech is one of the dilemmas of societies, while pointing out that the tribal custom and laws and it enforcement have a major role in spreading the speech of tolerance.
The media office of the National Security Adviser said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Within the direction of the government of the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, and according to its governmental program, the National Security Adviser held today an extensive meeting to discuss the basics of the strategy to combat hate speech, Headed by the National Security Adviser, Qasim Al-Araji, and in the presence of a number of representatives of the Iraqi components, academics, professors of Iraqi universities, and influencers in the societal circles, including researchers, tribal sheikhs, institutions concerned with combating hate speech, and advisors in the prime minister's office.
Al-Araji stressed in a speech during the meeting that "hate speech is one of the dilemmas that societies suffer from, and that tolerance and acceptance of the other is the true basis for building societies and strengthening their cohesion," noting that "the family is the first concerned with reforming its members, so the righteousness of the house is the righteousness of the society."
Al-Araji stressed, according to the statement, the urgent need to enhance societal cohesion and coexistence, through schools, universities, places of worship, civil society organizations, religious institutions, and dialogue centers. It helps spread a culture of tolerance and acceptance of the other and combats any discourse that spreads hatred, indicating that "any insult to the other is hate, and we must know the reasons that prompted its dissemination."
