Planning Minister receives Ambassador of EU to Iraq and his accompanying delegation

    Minister of Planning Muhammad Ali Tamim announced on Tuesday, that he had overcome the obstacles to conducting the general census of population and housing.

    The ministry stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Planning, Muhammad Ali Tamim, received today Ville Varjola, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Iraq , and his accompanying delegation," noting that "during the meeting he attended The Director General of International Cooperation, Saher Abdul-Kadhim, discussed the prospects for joint cooperation between Iraq and the European Union, especially in the field of supporting the efforts of the Ministry of Planning, in conducting the general population and housing census, to be implemented before the end of next year 2024."

    Tamim stressed, according to the statement, that "cooperation with the European Union mission in Iraq was positive and contributed to the development of relations with the countries of the Union in various fields," expressing the desire "to develop the level of this cooperation, and the possibility of benefiting from the capabilities and experiences of the European Union countries in providing infrastructure and basic requirements for the population census, which represents great economic, developmental and social importance for Iraq."

    The statement pointed to "overcoming the political challenges that were facing the implementation of this project, as well as addressing the financial aspect and providing financial allocations for its implementation."
