UNICEF representative in Iraq, Sandra Lattouf, confirmed on Saturday, supporting the Iraqi government actions to address water scarcity.
"We congratulate the Iraqi authorities for taking the necessary measures to address water scarcity at this difficult time, and for holding a conference and bringing all specialists and experts at the highest levels to discuss this serious matter," Lattouf told the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
She called on all ministries and specialists to "hear views and take the necessary measures to make a clear road map for everyone", noting "the willingness of UNICEF and its partners to support the Government's steps to address water scarcity ".
"The government alone cannot take all necessary steps to address the threat of drought. The UNICEF and its partners have come to support it strategically and morally and to provide all the available services," she added.
"UNICEF has been present for decades in Baghdad, and it has many projects related to water, including sterilization, rationalization, and capacity building of specialists,"
Lattouf stressed "The importance of the media taking its role in spreading awareness among citizens, and working to achieve the steps of the conference."
