Iraq and Kuwait discuss joint key files

    Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced on Sunday that a number of key files will be discussed with his Kuwaiti counterpart Salem Al-Sabah, while Al-Sabah confirmed the imminent opening of a commercial attaché at his country's consulate in Basra.

    Hussein said at a joint press conference with his Kuwaiti counterpart Salem Al-Sabah, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "we touched with the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister on bilateral relations between Iraq and Kuwait, and discussed how to protect and develop good relations between Iraq and Kuwait," indicating that "we discussed the process of facilitating visits between the two countries.

    "We discussed cooperation in confronting the scourge of drugs and how to control it," Hussein added, explaining that "the border demarcation file was discussed and an agreement was reached on the continuation of the holding of committees on the file, and we also stressed the termination of border issues between Iraq and Kuwait.

    "The oil file and the joint fields were part of our discussions," he said, adding that "the right framework for solving problems is dialogue".

    "The relations between the two countries are strong and developing and will continue with cooperation and dialogue between the parties,"he stressed.

    He pointed out that" Iraq and Kuwait welcome the Saudi-Iranian agreement, stressing "to work jointly in the security field to protect the countries of the region, as the security of the region is collective security.

    For his part, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Salem Al-Sabah said during the conference that" Iraq is a neighboring country and we have deep-rooted and strong historical relations with it, "indicating"we held very fruitful discussions and our determination to implement what was done in the talks.

    He pointed to the" need to work on ending the file of demarcation of the maritime borders, "explaining that"we have found a match of views with the Iraqi side".

    "We have decided to open a commercial attaché at the Kuwaiti consulate in Basra," he stressed, expressing Kuwait's keenness to restore things to normal with the historic commercial relationship.

    "We discussed international and regional issues that are directly reflected on the security of our two countries," he said, pointing out that "our leadership wishes Iraq and its people security and prosperity.
