Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadhil, explained the reason for the decrease in energy supply rates. He indicated that this came after achieving the highest production rate of 26,000 megawatts, confirming the deep discussions soon with the Iranian side regarding gas supplies.

"The Ministry achieved the highest energy production at a rate of 26,000 megawatts. The decrease in supply rates came due to the interruption of more than half of the gas imported from Iran from production stations, which caused the loss of 5,000 megawatts, in addition to the loss of 1,000 megawatts of interconnection lines, which were also extinguished due to late payment of dues,” Fadhil told the Iraqi News Agency – INA.

He pointed out, "Our current production rates are 20,600 megawatts," explaining, "Once the gas returns, the production rate will rise and the processing hours will return as before."

"Deep discussions will be held with the Iranian side within days regarding this, and we hope that they will understand the situation in Iraq," he noted, expressing his hope that "they will understand the situation of the system and the high temperatures, and return the quantities of supplied gas."

He stressed, "The energy situation will return to normal," explaining that "the Ministry of Electricity has paid the debts in full, but the issues related to the TBI Bank due to US sanctions prevent the transfer of funds, and this problem is paid for by the Ministry of Electricity and the citizen."
