The Security Media Cell SMC denied On Sunday that there had been an attack on refugees in the Makhmour camp.

"In response to alleged news circulated through social media platforms and some media outlets about actions or an attack carried out by security forces on refugees in Makhmour camp, SMC categorically denies these lies," a statement by SMC received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said.

The statement added that "the measures taken by the security forces were aimed at securing the safety of all those inside the camp from the illegal actions carried out by some of them, which lead to destabilization and peace in the country and harm Iraq's relationship with its regional surroundings, and this is unacceptable and there are no intentions, plans or orders related to the implementation of certain procedures inside the camp."

According to the statement, SMC stressed that "the constitution of the Republic of Iraq and the current government's strategy according to its government program are compatible within the framework of providing full protection and the required support to all peaceful refugees on Iraqi territory, and the government does not allow Iraq to be a springboard for attacks on neighboring countries or carrying out hostile acts against any country in the world."

SMC called on "human rights organizations, relevant international bodies and the camp administration to cooperate absolutely with the security forces seeking to control security and reject illegal transgression, and there will be strict legal measures against anyone who stands against the general interest of Iraq and seeks to stir up problems on national soil."
