The Martyrs Foundation announced today, Monday, the closure of the file of the victims of the Karrada bombing in the center of the capital, Baghdad, while setting the date for the opening of new sites of graves for the victims of Badoush jail and the completion of matching the remains of the victims of Speicher.
The Director General of the Mass Graves Department at the Martyrs Foundation, Diaa Karim, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The role of the Martyrs Foundation is not limited to opening and excavating graves only, but rather includes research and investigation, so the Badoush prison cemetery was opened in stages, as we have come to new sites that will be worked on and opened,” stressing that “the number of graves is very large, and work is continuing to search and investigate.”
He pointed out, "If the full budget is available, the second batch can be completed within weeks by quickly opening new sites from the graves of Badoush prison inmates."
Regarding the victims of the Al-Laith complex in Karrada district of Baghdad, Karim explained that "170 cases were matched, including 7 cases that were not identified, and they were buried in a private cemetery in Najaf, and the file was closed."
Regarding Speicher's victims, he pointed out that "1237 cases were extracted and 1091 of them were matched, in addition to the last 20 matching cases. Thus, the number of matching cases reached 1111, and 126 cases remain to be worked on," noting that "there are some matches, it depends on the budget to get it done."
