Minister of Oil: The sixth licensing round will include 3 governorates and will be promoted within two months

    Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani detailed today, Sunday, the most important gas investment projects currently implemented in Iraq and its invested quantities, and while setting a date for promoting the launch of the sixth licensing round, he confirmed that it will include 3 provinces.
     
     
    Abdul-Ghani told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Ministry of Oil has put gas investment and stopping its burning among its important and main priorities, and there are promising projects, the most important of which are projects implemented by the Basra Gas Company, which is a joint venture between the South Gas Company, Shell and Mitsubishi, and work began more than two years ago with the installation of new plants for gas investment, it aims to invest more than 200 million cubic feet as a first stage and another 200 million as a second stage.
      "The first phase will be launched at the end of next May, and there are other promising projects within the framework of activating the contract signed with Total to invest 600 million cubic feet of gas, and it will be implemented over a period of 5 years, in addition to increasing production from the Artawi field at a rate of 210 barrels per day, as well as establishing a seawater treatment plant and water use for the purpose of injection into oil reservoirs to support reservoir pressure, and this project includes gas investment from the Luhais, Artawi and West Qurna 2 fields, which are currently managed by Lukoil, in addition to the Majnoon fields. Abdul-Ghani said.
     "Through this contract, all the gas produced from those fields will be invested and the burning process will be stopped, and its terms will be implemented in stages over a period of 5 years and completed on the specified dates. The Ministry of Oil also sought to invest gas from the border fields on the eastern side of Iraq through the Fifth licensing round this round will provide at least 800 million cubic feet of gas, which will be directed to gas-fired power stations and support the national grid.
     
    Abdul-Ghani stressed, "The Ministry of Oil plans to launch a sixth licensing round that includes oil fields and exploratory patches in the western region down to the governorates of Diwaniyah and Muthanna, and it will promote within less than two months, and this will provide large quantities of gas with the projects we mentioned and reduce or stop the process of importing gas from neighboring countries.”
