The Ministry of Justice clarified its procedures applied with Ottoman bonds to prove the ownership of real estate, while confirming that it is not considered a sufficient argument unless it matches the records in the Real Estate Registration Department.

The ministry's spokesman, Kamel Amin, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Ottoman bonds are one of the limited cases and relate to some heirs who lost the bonds, as the Ottoman bonds prove the ownership of the property to them.".

He added, "The available copy, whether it is in the possession of the one who presents it or is brought from the departments in Turkey because it keeps the Ottoman bonds. It must be submitted to the Real Estate Registration Department and is not considered a sufficient argument unless it matches the Ottoman records documented in the Registration Department.".

He also added, "The registration department carries out the translation process through specialists to verify that the document that was included is identical to the available records, meaning that the proof process takes place through the department's records and not through what the citizen provides.".

For furthermore he stated, "What the citizen presents of an Ottoman document is a companion and not sufficient evidence unless it matches the records in the registration department."
