Al-Sudani Chairs the 5th Session of the Higher Commission for Coordination between Governorates not Incorporated in a Region

    Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani chaired the 5th session of the Higher Commission for Coordination between Governorates not Incorporated in a Region today. 

    The media office of the Prime Minister said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA),"They discussed the most prominent topics and issues in the governorates and followed up on implementing previously approved decisions and recommendations."

     During the session, they reviewed the monthly report on the progress of the implementation of service projects in the governorates. They also discussed the topics on the agenda and made relevant decisions. 

    The council hosted the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission and discussed the governorates' most essential needs and requirements for the provincial elections scheduled at the end of this year. 

    During the session, the Prime Minister directed the governors to attach more importance to the "Riyada" (pioneer initiative for development and employment) for training and employing young people, which the government started implementing last month. The first issues discussed during the session were the water file and dealing with the problem of violations on the rivers. And based on the directives of the Prime Minister during the first session of the Higher Committee for Water and the recommendations issued by it, the following was decided: 

    1- Requiring the governorates to share the water shares approved by the Ministry of Water Resources.
     2- Commitment to the agricultural plan and the directives of the Council of Ministers and sectoral authorities during the summer.
     3- Encouraging farmers to acquire modern irrigation systems in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture. 4- Assign a security force to assist the various sectoral authorities in removing violations on all rivers.

     5- The governorates should support the Ministry of Water Resources projects that aim at regulating and developing the irrigation sector.

     6- Reducing river water pollution by implementing sewage treatment plant projects and not throwing solid waste into its streams.

     7- Classifying the information related to the water sector as sensitive and preventing its circulation to the public. To implement the government's plans for the rehabilitation and maintenance of roads in a way that contributes to reducing traffic jams, it was decided that the Ministry of Finance should submit tables of the allocated funds for road and bridge maintenance fees in the governorates. They also discussed the implementation of the directives of the Prime Minister to support the pensioners' segment, which falls within the priorities of the government program. The Commission voted to preference the pensioners in housing projects in the new cities in the governorates.

     The Commission voted on the following: First: Adhere to the provisions of Articles (33 and 34) of the amended Law No. (21 of 2008) of the Governorates not Incorporated in a Region, regarding the number of the governor's deputies and advisory board. Second / extending the committee's work to amend the law of Governorates not Incorporated in Region No. (21 of 2008), for thirty days.
