Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani announced on Thursday, the government's support for the work of the Electoral Commission to hold the upcoming provincial elections, while indicating that all governors will be directed to provide support to the commission.
The media office of the Prime Minister said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani presided today, a meeting that included the president and members of the High Electoral Commission," noting that "during the meeting, the Commission's preparations for holding provincial elections were discussed at the specified time at the end of this year, according to the new law, and within the framework of commitment to the government program to hold transparent and fair elections."
The statement added, "The meeting also witnessed a discussion of the obligations involved in the new law, including the specified date and audit centers, and the Commission's need for logistical support to enable it to conduct contracts for the provision of electoral process requirements, such as ballot cards and others."
Prime Minister affirmed "the government's support for the Commission's work in preparing for the upcoming provincial elections and ensuring their success," noting that "all governors will be directed to provide support to the Commission, in a way that helps make this democratic process a success."
