$90,000 Japanese financial grant to Iraq to support Al-Qaim Hospital

    The Japanese government provided a financial grant of $90,000 to Iraq to support Al-Qaim Hospital, while the Chargé d'Affairs of the Japanese Embassy confirmed that this is part of the cooperation to support the liberated areas from the terrorist gangs of Daesh.

    "A ceremony was held today to sign the grant contract from the Japanese official aid program for civil grants and human security projects to provide Al-Qaim General Hospital in Anbar Governorate with medical devices. The value of the grant amounts to 90 thousand dollars," said the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    He noted, "The signing ceremony took place by the Chargé d'Affaires of the Japanese Embassy in Iraq and the head of the United Iraqi Medical Society for Relief and Development, Ahmed Al-Hiti," adding that, "This aims to improve the medical environment in the city of Al-Qaim and its surrounding areas after liberation from Daesh gangs by equipping nine infant incubators, one phototherapy, CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) and a laryngoscope."

    "This grant comes within the framework of the Japanese Official Aid Program for Human Security by the Government of Japan," he said, pointing out that "these projects aim to achieve immediate and direct results to improve the living conditions of local communities."

    INA reporter stated, "The government of Japan has implemented more than 100 projects of this kind since 2003 throughout Iraq, in various fields, including health care, education, poverty, public welfare, and mine and unexploded ordnance removal."

    "We have signed a new grant to provide medical devices for Al-Qaim Hospital in Anbar Governorate," said the Chargé d'Affaires of the Japanese Embassy, noting that "Japan is working with the international community and actors, including Japanese and Iraqi civil society, from for a better life for the Iraqi people."

    He added, "This project is part of our cooperation with the areas liberated from Daesh, and we know that the hospital is the only one in the existing region that provides specialized services for premature babies," praising "the hospital's management, staff and their valuable dedication to providing health care services to the local population. However, we have heard that the equipment for children who need treatment is insufficient and currently patients are often transferred to other hospitals far from Al-Qaim area.”

    "The project aims to help Al-Qaim General Hospital to meet the need for health care for newborns via the assistance of the United Iraqi Medical Society for Relief and Development. The Government of Japan will provide the hospital with medical equipment that includes nine infant incubators, one phototherapy, and CPAP," he included. 

    For his part, the head of the Unified Iraqi Medical Society for Relief and Development, executing the project, Ahmed Al-Hiti, said on the sidelines of signing the contract, "This agreement aims to equip one of our health institutions in Anbar Governorate, which was subjected to Daesh terrorism," explaining that "these projects have a positive role in restoring sability and return of citizens, especially in Anbar, Nineveh and Kirkuk in Hawija district."

    He stressed, "We have worked on this agreement for a full year with Anbar Health Affairs, the Japanese embassy, and members of the Parliament. We have continued contact with Al-Qaim Hospital, and we succeeded in obtaining the generous grant from friendly Japan in this regard," pointing out, "Japan's role is great in supporting Iraq for many years, especially after 2003, in many areas, in addition to long-term loans to several governorates, and support for United Nations organizations in various sectors."
