MOD arrests a human trafficking gang, drug dealers in Baghdad and Muthanna

    Ministry of Defense announced Friday arresting a human trafficking gang and drug dealers in Baghdad and Muthanna governorates.

     The ministry stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "during  successive strikes against organized crime gangs carried out by the General Directorate of Intelligence and Security at the Ministry of Defense, relying on the intelligence effort, the detachments of the Baghdad Intelligence and Security Directorate were able to arrest a gang specialized in human trafficking in Al-Saadoun Street in Baghdad and 6 accused of them, in coordination with the fight against human trafficking and the first division of the Federal Police.

    The statement added, "The necessary measures were taken against them and handed them over to the competent authorities," pointing out that "the other detachments of the Directorate, after obtaining judicial approvals, were also able to arrest a dealer and promoter of narcotic substances in the Karrada area."

     It pointed out that "the pills, narcotic substances , and drug tools were seized, in addition to motorcycles used in the distribution process, and they were duly handed over to the competent authorities."

    The statement continued, "In the same context and through careful follow-up within the sector of responsibility, the detachments of the Intelligence and Security Directorate of Al-Muthanna Governorate, in coordination with Drug Affairs, arrested (4) drug dealers in separate areas of Al-Muthanna Governorate, and issued arrest warrants against them according to Provisions of Article (28) Narcotics of the Penal Code.
