Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, visits today, Tuesday, the Swiss capital, Geneva, at the head of a government delegation, to discuss a number of files, including lifting the European ban on the green bird (Iraqi Airways).
The Ministry of Transport said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "The Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, is visiting the Swiss capital, Geneva, at the head of a delegation that includes the Director General of the Iraqi Airways Company, Karim Kazim Hussein, and the Director General of the Land Transport Company, Murtada Al-Shahmani, and a number of officials." In the ministry, to participate in the meetings to develop internal transport to mitigate the effects of climate change, which will be held from 21 to 24 February.
According to the statement "The agenda of Al-Saadawi's visit to Switzerland includes discussing the files of the European ban on the Iraqi green bird, and activating international agreements on transport, in a way that enhances the revenues of the national economy and contributes to the development of services provided to citizens," noting that "Al-Saadawi is currently participating in United Nations Economic Commission meetings for Europe (UNECE).
"The sessions of the 85th Ministerial Meeting of the Internal Transport Committee will discuss the transportation sector's measures to join the global struggle against climate change," pointing out that "Al-Saadawi intends to participate in the committee's sessions itself, which discusses the possibility of expanding technologies that support measures to mitigate the effects of climate change, challenges and opportunities for international financial and regulatory support for climate action will be discussed.
Regarding the TIR Agreement, the ministry stated, "Al-Saadawi intends to participate - on the sidelines of the meetings - in discussing the activation of the TIR Agreement, which aims to facilitate international land traffic for transport operators and their agencies, through the movement of goods subject to customs seals in a simple and cost-effective system and reduce delays at borders crossings, and the passage of shipping containers and vehicles in international trade," pointing out, "the minister is making strenuous efforts to activate the agreement, which was approved by Parliament in 2016."
The ministry indicated, "In addition to the financial revenues for implementing the agreement, Trucks and drivers are needed for logistical services such as restaurants, rest houses, fuel and shopping, which will revive border crossings and service stations on international roads."
