Ministry of Water Resources-MoWR announced on Tuesday that Iraq's dams were not affected by the earthquake that riffled parts of Turkey and Syria, while indicating that they were operating normally.
“Mosul Dam and other Iraqi dams were not affected by the earthquake and other aftershocks”, said the Director-General of the Iraqi General Authority for Dams and Reservoirs, Ali Radi Thamer in a statement , received by the Iraqi news agency (INA).
“The Ministry has mobilized its staff ,conducted a visual inspection, inspected sensors deployed at Mosul dam, and showed that Iraqi dams, particularly Mosul dam, were unaffected by the earthquake and the aftershocks”, Thamer added.
“We are ready to receive any amount of water if it comes, especially since there is a storage space in the dams that enables us to deal with any water wave”, he also affirmed.
Thamer affirmed, “The preliminary information indicates that the dams in Türkiye and Syria are in a good condition”.
