Al-Maliki and Lavrov discuss economic cooperation and political and security developments

    The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov, discussed today, Monday, economic cooperation and political and security developments.
     
     
    The media office of the head of the State of Law Coalition stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Al-Maliki received in his office today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, and his accompanying delegation, and at the beginning of the meeting, Lavrov conveyed the greetings of President Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, and his good wishes to Al-Maliki and the Iraqi people permanent progress and prosperity.”
    The statement added, "The two sides reviewed developments in the political and security situation, as well as regional and international issues, and the future of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries was also discussed."
    Al-Maliki pointed out, according to the statement, to "the need to improve economic cooperation and the rest of the various fields between the two countries," noting that "Iraq seeks to build balanced relations with all countries of the world in a way that achieves common interests."
    Regarding the conflict between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine, the head of the State of Law Coalition stressed "the importance of committing to the rules of international law and increasing efforts to reach political and diplomatic solutions through dialogue in a way that preserves the independence, sovereignty and coexistence of countries and peoples," praising "Russia's positions in support of Iraq in its war against Terrorism and Russian efforts to protect security and territory of Iraq.
    In turn, the Russian Foreign Minister confirmed his country's support for Iraq, and its serious desire to strengthen relations between the two countries and expand cooperation frameworks in the economic and military fields and rehabilitate infrastructure.
