The Chaldean Church condemned Sunday the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran by a Swedish extremist.
The media of the Patriarch, Cardinal Louis Raphael Sako, stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Chaldean Church condemns the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran by an extremist Swedish person in front of the Turkish embassy in Sweden."
It added, "This behavior is contrary to human, religious and moral values, and it hurts the feelings of millions of Muslims in the world, and fuels hate speech at a time when our world needs civil peace."
It continued, "States must shoulder their responsibility by respecting the right of every person to practice their faith freely. They must take solid steps in protecting religions, their symbols, and believers in them, spreading a spirit of love and brotherhood among followers of religions, immunizing citizens from extremism and violence, and punishing offenders to prevent their recurrence."
