French President Emmanuel Macron decided, today, Friday, to increase the financial allocation of the military budget in his country during the coming years.
France's military budget will be allocated 400 billion euros ($433.16 billion) for the period from 2024 to 2030, up from 295 billion euros for the period between 2019 and 2025, Macron said.
He added, "The 2019-2025 defense budget was aimed at starting to build reserve capabilities after a lack of investment over the previous decades.".
He described the new 2024-2030 budget as a "transformation" program to prepare the military for the possibility of high-intensity conflict, something that became more urgent after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. "France has armies ready for the challenges of the century and will have more," he said in his New Year's address to the army at the Mont-de-Marsan air base in the southwest of the country.
He stressed, "France must be ready for a new era with the accumulation of threats.".
