The US Weather Service in Fort Worth confirmed today, Wednesday, the monitoring of 5 tornadoes in the state of Texas, noting that 12 tornadoes were reported since Tuesday, but they have not yet been confirmed.
Of the 3 tornadoes in Tarrant County, the strongest was rated "EF-1". A fourth tornado was seen in Grapevine, near Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
The weather service said there was also an "EF-2" tornado with winds of up to 125 mph in Wise County, as well as a tornado in western Paris.
Damage surveys will be conducted in those communities later Wednesday. Based on radar and damage reports, the National Weather Service said there could be as many as 12 tornadoes in Texas on Tuesday that have yet to be confirmed.
The storms cut a path of destruction across Oklahoma and the Dallas area, injuring at least 7 people. It is part of a larger storm system that threatens more damage to the south.
The Farmerville police chief says nearly 25 people were injured, some critically, after a tornado leveled a neighborhood in Farmerville.
