Interior Minister: government program devoted a large part of the work to the promotion of human rights

    The Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, confirmed on Thursday, that the government program has devoted a large part of the work to the promotion of human rights.

    A statement by the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "the Directorate of Human Rights, under the auspices and presence of the Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, and in cooperation with the Department of Relations and Information, held its annual conference under the slogan (Respect for human rights is everyone's responsibility), in the presence of the Chairman of the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee and the European Union mission. Advisory Council in Iraq, a number of advisers in the Parlimant , chairmen of committees, civil society organizations and the International Committee of the Red Cross in Iraq, as well as a number of undersecretaries of the Ministry of Interior, leaders and directors."


    In his speech during the conference, the Minister of the Interior affirmed that "the entire world celebrates on the tenth of December of each year the anniversary of the International Human Rights Day, the day on which the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948."


    Al-Shammari added that "successive governments after 2003 had a prominent role in promoting the culture of human rights in various state institutions the legislation that guarantees the maintenance of human dignity was one of the most prominent features of the government program for the government of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani, the human being who devoted a large part of the government's interests and work to advancing rights."


    The statement added "the conference witnessed speeches from the audience and a short film on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, while the conference's activities included honoring a number of the wounded and the families of the martyrs of the Ministry of Interior."
