Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra discussed, on Saturday, important bilateral files and issues of common interest.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs-MOFA said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met today, with Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra, on the sidelines of his participation in the 31st session Arab League Preparatory Meeting for Algeria Summit.”
During the meeting, Hussein emphasized the Iraqi efforts to strengthen relations with Algeria in the political, cultural, and economical levels.
Hussein stressed that “The coordination between the two countries must continue in various fields to serve interests and Arab issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause."
He called for "the necessity of holding the meetings of the Iraqi-Algerian joint committee in Baghdad, opening new horizons for bilateral relations between the two countries, and bridging cooperation in the interest of the two peoples."
For his part, Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra congratulated Hussein on the formation of the new government, stressing that "Iraq is a brotherly country, and both the Iraqi and Algerian peoples share so many common bonds."
