Macron’s party changes name: “Breaking point”

French President Emmanuel Macron’s party “La République en marche” (The Republic on the Road – LREM) officially changes its name to “Renaissance” (Renaissance/Rebirth – RE), TT reports. 

New electoral alliance since May

It was already in May that the name was launched ahead of the French parliamentary elections when the party created an electoral alliance with liberal Mo Dem and the centre-right Horizons party. RE continues its cooperation with the alliance parties and also grows when two other, smaller parties join the party. 

“Breakpoint”

The party’s new direction was voted on during the party’s congress in the Louvre in Paris on Saturday. 
– We are in a revolutionary period. A turning point as the president said, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said at the congress according to Le Monde. 
-We are determined to get through these major upheavals, sometimes even using them as fuel during a period when certain changes are no longer an option.

Future without Macron

Macron himself is not the leader of the new party, he is called honorary president. Stéphane Séjourné, MEP and close associate of Macron, will instead become the party’s new leader. 
According to French media, the change is a way for the party to strengthen its power and at the same time prepare for a future without Macron
