Iraqi-Syrian unified position regarding water quotas

     Iraq and Syria agreed on Saturday, to unify positions regarding the water quota file.

    The activities of the joint Iraqi-Syrian bilateral meeting for launching the International Hydrological Program, 9th edition were concluded in Damascus under the chairmanship of Minister of Resources Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani and his Syrian counterpart, Tammam Raad, where the technical agent authorized with the powers of the Minister of Environment Jassim Abdul Aziz Al Falahi and the Iraqi charge d'affaires in Damascus Yassin Sharif also attended the meeting, according to a statement by the Ministry of Water Resources, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    During the closing speeches of the ministers, the need to keep joint work ongoing was emphasized to reach the desired results, as well as joint coordination and unified positions to obtain the two countries' water rights in light of the lack of water revenues and climate changes in a way that meets the two countries' water requirements and ensures the well-being of their peoples.

    The meeting was concluded with signing a joint minutes between the two sides, whose most important recommendations included the implementation of integrated water resources management, achieving sustainable development goals, harnessing technology, science and research, and confronting the extreme effects of climate in addition to that the second meeting of the program will be in the capital, Baghdad, soon.
