INSS arrests a number of suspects in the crime of extortion in Dhi Qar and Nineveh

National Security Service INSS announced Friday the arrest of a number of suspects in the crime of extortion in Dhi Qar and Nineveh.

INSS stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "based on the intelligence information that confirmed the presence of a person running organized operations to blackmail officials and innocent citizens in Dhi Qar Governorate, a special working group was formed to track this suspect and monitor all his movements, and in accordance with judicial approvals, he was arrested in while receiving a sum of (15) million Iraqi dinars from one of his victims.

 The statement added, "The National Security Forces managed in Nineveh Governorate to arrest nine convicts who blackmailed innocent citizens to obtain money in exchange for not publishing photos and videos of the victims."

 It stressed that "all the accused have been referred to the competent judicial authorities to receive their just punishment."
