President Salih receives Al-Kadhimi

President Barham Salih and Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi stressed on Sunday the importance of serious and effective dialogue to find solutions to the political crisis.

The Presidency of the Republic said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi. The meeting took place at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad. 


Both leaders exchanged views on several issues related to developments in Iraq, chiefly the ongoing political deadlock and its ramifications.


The two officials agreed upon the need to bring the country out of the current political impasse.

 To this end, there should be a serious and frank dialogue that reaches solutions taking into consideration how to deal with the delicate circumstances faced by our country, and how to meet the Iraqi people's legitimate demands, they added.


It was stressed that our domestic front should be strengthened, while a political approach that is based on the importance of giving priority to the country's supreme national interest should be adopted.


Talks also focused on the need to steer the country out of the current political crisis and meet the political, economic, and financial challenges.


The discussions also included the importance of meeting the tasks ahead, establishing security and stability as well as maintaining civil and social peace in the country.
