Iraq: Looking forward to strengthening relations with Algeria

    Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi affirmed on Saturday, Iraq's aspiration to strengthen the relations with Algeria in various fields.

    "PM Al-Kadhimi received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Ramtane Lamamra, and the accompanying delegation," according to a statement by PM media office, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, in which a number of issues of common concern were handled, especially with regard to energy and food security challenges that interacted due to the war in Ukraine, to have their effects reflected on the whole world.

    For his part, the Algerian Foreign Minister affirmed his country's desire to enhance communication with Iraq and strengthen mutual cooperation relations, in a way that reflects the depth of the brotherly ties that unite the two brotherly countries.

    The meeting also included reviewing the preparations and the ongoing preparations for holding the Arab summit in Algeria on the 1st of next November, as they emphasized that the work of the Algerian-Iraqi joint committee to discuss the overall relations between the two countries at the end of this year with convening its 14th session in Algeria.

    The statement also included that the two sides affirmed Iraq and Algeria's firm position to support the Palestinian cause and for the Palestinian people to obtain their full rights, while the Prime Minister praised the efforts made by the Algerian government in supporting the Palestinian national reconciliation measures and the unity of the Palestinian ranks.

    They stressed their pursuit and continuity of cooperation and coordination in various fields to serve the interests of the two countries, and the importance of concerted efforts that strengthen the mechanisms of joint Arab action, and confront the challenges witnessed in the region.
