The Chaldean Patriarchate condemned Friday the attack that targeted innocent people in northern Iraq.

The Patriarchate stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "with great sadness, His Grace Patriarch Cardinal Luis Raphael Sako followed the news of the brutal bombing that targeted innocents in the north of our beloved Iraq."

It added: "We condemn the targeting of innocent civilians in Barkh resort, near the Christian cemetery in the village of Bersvi in the Kurdistan region during the same week, pointing out that" the church strongly condemns all these immoral violations that violate the lives of citizens and the sovereignty of their land.

It stressed that "the Church hopes that this disaster will motivate Iraqi politicians to unite the ranks through a responsible and courageous dialogue, to end divisions, conflicts, corruption and chaos, and accelerate the formation of a national government that believes in partnership, democracy and the rule of law, to protect citizens and prevent the use of their lands to settle scores, and this is what Iraqis have been eagerly awaiting since  19 years".
