Minister of Transport Nasser Hussein Al-Shibli clarified details of the work of the British Serco Company in Iraq for air navigation, while stressing that extending its work according to a 15-year agreement is illegal and is currently before the judiciary.

Al-Shibli told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Sirco Company has an old contract that expired in 2020, and it presented a framework agreement that was signed by general managers and former ministers before we assumed the position, which states: (If you (the Iraqi party) do not renew the contract We are going to the 15-year framework agreement."

He added, "The board of directors of the General Air Navigation Company rejected this agreement because no one knows about it and it does not include incoming and outgoing or the approval of a minister or board of directors," noting that "the Ministry of Transport wanted to solve the issue because the company went to arbitration outside Iraq, so the council decided Ministers may work for them on a one-year contract.

He pointed out that "the contract took 3 months of negotiation to resolve all matters, and a new Director General of the Air Navigation Authority was sent instead of the old one because he was infected with Corona and traveled outside the country," noting that "the director general signed the contract without the approval of the Board of Directors and inquiring about the agreement, and thus the ministry filed a lawsuit legal action against him."

He continued, "The ministry is currently awaiting the court's ruling, especially as the company threatens to file a compensation claim before the British judiciary if we do not give it money and we do not agree to its return to work."
