The ancient city of Ur in Dhi Qar witnessed Sunday a distinguished tourist season, in which it received a large number of local, Arab and foreign tourists, to see the landmarks of civilization there.
The director of the ancient city of Ur, Ali kadhim, told the Iraqi News Agency, "The ancient city of Ur has attracted large numbers of Arab and foreign tourists during the current tourist season," noting that "the visits included the marshes and the city of Nasiriyah, the center of Dhi Qar province."
He expressed his hope "to increase the number of tourists in the coming seasons," stressing that "the local government, the General Secretariat of the Cabinet and the Ministry of Culture have paid attention to rehabilitating the ancient city of Ur, in order to provide the necessary services for tourists."
He continued, "Sums of money have been allocated to the city of Ur to rehabilitate all buildings and facilities, as well as to maintain some buildings in them."
