The Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Muhammad Barkindo, visited the shrine of Imam Ali, peace be upon him, in Najaf province, hours after he arrived in Baghdad on an official visit.
A statement by the Ministry of Oil, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "the Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Muhammad Barkindo performed the rituals of the visit to the shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and was received by officials in Najaf."
The statement added, "The Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) insisted on wearing the local traditional headdress (the yashmag) as an expression of his pride and love for the Iraqi people."
