Joint Operations Command clarified Friday the tasks of the NATO mission in Iraq, stressing the importance of continuous training to raise the capabilities of the security forces, while noting that the Iraqi army is dependent on its own capabilities in combat.
The spokesman for the joint operations, Major General Tahsin al-Khafaji, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The NATO mission is primarily a training mission, the purpose of which is to train the Iraqi security forces and raise the level and capabilities in military operations," noting that "the NATO mission has arrived and started its work over a year ago."
He added that "joint operations are looking forward to having great work with NATO, and great training in the field of raising and building military capabilities, and this is the goal of the presence that the Iraqi security forces need," noting that "Iraq in combat capabilities did not depend on other armies, rather It relied on its own capabilities , but all armies in the world need to develop their capabilities and capabilities.”
He stressed that "training is important in raising capabilities and building them, so all countries of the world need to continuously train and build their military capabilities, even in stable countries that have high capabilities ."
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, had met earlier with the new commander of NATO forces, General Giovanni Iannucci.
Al-Kadhimi stressed, according to a statement issued by his office, the importance of strengthening cooperation with NATO in the field of training the Iraqi security forces, developing their efficiency at the institutional level, and raising the performance skills of members of the security forces.
For his part, the head of the NATO mission stressed the importance of the relationship with Iraq; Being a pivotal country in the region and the world, stressing that its stability will be reflected positively on the regional and international stability, praising the role played by the Iraqi government in this regard.
