The White House confirmed that the United States will support the applications of Finland and Sweden for membership in NATO.
"The United States will support the application for NATO membership by Finland and Sweden if they choose to do so," White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said during a press conference.
The spokeswoman added that Washington is ready to provide any support to the two countries during their joining the alliance.
It is noteworthy that Finland and Sweden announced recently that they are studying the possibility of joining NATO, and may submit an application for membership in the alliance next week.
In turn, Russia has warned that it will have to take certain measures, including military, if Finland and Sweden join the alliance.
