The State Company for the Drugs Industry and Medical Appliances in Samarra addressed Sunday the Ministry of Health to support its prices and raise the volume of annual contracts with it, it revealed the size of contracts and the percentage of differences between the prices of its products and foreign products.

The company's director, Khaled Mohi Alwan, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the majority of the company's products, in addition to the raw materials, are of high quality and of solid European origin," noting that "the Iraqi medicines of Samarra is comparable to the foreign product in terms of quality."

Alwan added, "Local prices need government support, especially at this stage, which is witnessing a rise in the prices of raw materials and the exchange rates of the dollar," noting that "the company's prices are very low when compared to the prices of foreign products, the difference of which sometimes reaches 300-400% percent".

He also said that  "the size of the company's contracts with the Ministry of Health ranges from 5 to 8 billion dinars annually, which does not meet the ambitions and is not commensurate with the allocations granted to the Ministry of Health for the purchase of medical materials."

He expressed his hope to "increase the volume of contracts with the Ministry of Health in order to cover the company's expenses and the salaries of its employees."

He stressed, "The government factory has the peculiarity of the fact that the state established this great edifice primarily to serve the citizen and set prices that suit the Iraqi individual."
