GCPI confirms their continued lifting of wrecks from territorial waters

    The General Company for Ports of Iraq , one of the formations of the Ministry of Transport, announced Wednesday, the continuation of work to raise the wrecks  from Iraqi waters at the internal level and territorial waters.

     The spokesman for the GCPI , Anmar Al-Safi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the company's staff continues to raise the wrecks at the internal level, such as Shatt Al-Arab, Khor Al-Zubair, Khor Abdullah and the nearby areas, as well as the territorial waters."

     Al-Safi explained, "The process of removing the sunken pieces is done either by fragmenting them or lifting them completely," stressing that all these procedures are proceeding in their natural form, and work is underway to remove all obstacles in the internal and external Iraqi waters.

     GCPI announced earlier that most of the wrecks that impede maritime navigation had been removed, while noting that there were some sunken pieces that were being removed and that distorted the city's landscape and affected the fish and marine environment and the city's environment.
