National Security Service announced Wednesday the arrest of 29 accused of religious extremism in several governorates.
INSS said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "In implementation of judicial arrest warrants, the INSS continues its expanded campaign to pursue and arrest members of extremist movements that try to offend religious beliefs and symbols and threaten societal peace."
The statement added added that "the detachments of the Service were able to arrest 29 accused of belonging to these extremist movements in the governorates of (Baghdad, Dhi Qar, Babylon, Qadisiyah, Muthanna, Basra, Maysan, Wasit, Najaf), noting that "their statements were written fundamentally and they were referred to the competent judicial authorities to receive their just punishment.”
