The United Nations General Assembly voted today, Thursday, to suspend Russia's membership in the Human Rights Council.
The resolution was supported by 93 members, 24 opposed, and 58 abstained.
The assembly voted over accusations of " systematic violations of human rights" by Russian forces in Ukraine.The draft text expressed "grave concern about the human rights crisis and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine."
The United States announced that it would seek to suspend Russia's membership after Ukraine accused Russian forces of killing hundreds of civilians in the town of Bucha. Russia denies attacking civilians in Ukraine.
Moscow's ambassador to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, said on Tuesday that when Bucha was under Russian control, no civilians were subjected to any kind of violence.
