MOE: determines a vision to facing climate change threat in Iraq

    Ministry of Environment (MOE) confirmed on Sunday that it has prepared a ten-year vision with the participation of international experts to confront the challenge of climate change and reduce its damage, while noting that climate differences  is behind changes in some areas in the form of torrential rains, floods, drought and desertification.  
     
    "Climate changes are a serious issue and Iraq is one of the five countries that have affected by it the most," noting that "there is what is called climate differences as a result of climate change, and they are phenomena that occur at an untimely date and their impact is clear in the Iraqi environment, it comes in some areas as a torrential rains and floods, and in other areas as drought and desertification.” The Minster of Environment, Jasim Al-Falahi, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA). 
     
      Al- Falahi added, "The ministry has a supreme policy to face climate changes threat, which was approved by the Council of Ministers to work and study with the United Nations Development Program which extends for 3 years". 
     
      He continued, "We have prepared, with the participation of international experts, a future vision for the next ten years to face the phenomenon of climate change, with the participation of the private sector, civil society organizations, and scientific and academic centers with focusing on the role of youth and women, and this is considered the supreme policy.
    "all sectors must work according to two visions to reduce the damages of these changes, the first from 2020-2025 and focused on reducing emissions and integrating the Iraqi national contribution, and the second from 2025 - 2030, and this focuses on the need to transfer an   important technology, especially in the water resources management sector and the agricultural sector”, he stressed.
