The Greek government spokesman, Ioannis Economou, announced in a press conference today, Friday, that his country does not intend to send the Russian-made "S-300" missile systems or any other weapons to Ukraine .
In response to a journalist’s question about the possibility of sending S-300 systems to Ukraine and strengthening the Ukrainian defense, given that Greece had previously sent two military transport planes to Poland with a large batch of Kalashnikov machine guns on board for transport to Ukraine, Economou replied: “Greece has sent aid "Humanity and a large batch of weapons to Ukraine. Nothing of this kind is currently being discussed. In no case does the question arise before us about the possibility of sending to Ukraine the weapons systems necessary for the defense of our country."
He added, "There is a government decision that states that all things necessary and useful for the defense of our country will remain here and will not be sent anywhere else," explaining at the same time that NATO did not ask for something similar from Greece.
For his part, the Chief of the General Staff of the Greek National Defense, General Constantinos Floros, also told reporters that Greece is not studying the issue of transferring the Russian-made S-300 systems to Ukraine.
Today, Friday, the Greek website "Onalert.gr" quoted the general's statement as saying: "Of course we are not looking at any possibility at all to transfer or provide weapons that would weaken the country's defense capability."
