European Council suspends Russia's membership

The European Council decided today, Friday, to suspend Russia's membership due to the military operation in Ukraine.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said, a day after the launch of the Russian military operation, that the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe is studying whether to suspend Russia from the Council, and a decision is scheduled to be taken soon.

"The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, on the initiative of Ukraine and Poland, has started the procedure for suspending Russia's membership in the organization," Morawiecki said in a tweet on his Twitter account.

"The final decision will be made soon," he added.
