The Directorate of Sports and Youth in Maysan Governorate, in cooperation with volunteer work teams, organized an educational and tourism campaign in the Um-Al-Naaj Marsh to support the marshes in the province.
The head of the Volunteers team, Firas Al-Muhammadawi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "A number of volunteer teams in Maysan province organized a cultural camp in Um-Al-Naaj Marsh within the eastern marshes of Al-Kahla district, east of Maysan province, with the participation of 70 young people," noting that "the camp aims to support tourism in the marshlands in order to come up with recommendations that serve the inhabitants there, and file of listing the marshes into the World Heritage List.
Al-Muhammadawi added that "The campaign, in which volunteer teams, civil society organizations, and elite activists and media figures participated in, also included discussing obstacles and proposals that revive the marshes, develop their situation, launch initiatives to support the marshes, and come up with recommendations that will be handed over to the representatives of the province in the Parliament to in order to convey their voices to decision-makers."
