The Supreme Commission for Hajj and Umrah announced today, Friday, that the number of Iraqi pilgrims for Umrah has exceeded 81,000, noting that it is the largest number that has reached the Holy Land compared to other countries.
The head of the Commission, Sami Al-Masoudi, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The number of pilgrims since the return of performing the rituals of Umrah by nearly five months has reached 81 thousand pilgrims," noting that "this number is the highest compared to other countries. As many countries have been banned, such as India, Russia, America and East Asia, as well as the Turks and the Iranians.”
Al-Masoudi added that "the plan is in line with the health status of the epidemic and the transformations and effects of the epidemic, while the increase and decrease in the number of pilgrims is due to measures of the host countries, but the coordination is high in everything that is required from us, both with regard to the certificate of the vaccine and (PCR) and checking the names of the pilgrims, all their needs, , and any problems that occur with the pilgrims, the Commission takes the initiative to solve them through the diplomatic mission and others.”
With regard to coordination with the Saudi side to increase the number of pilgrims this year, he stated that “The coordination exists at the level of the government, the authority and the embassy in Saudi Arabia, but on the Saudi side, there is no decision on the issue of the Hajj season for this year so far,” noting that “this decision is not to be decided by of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj Rather, it is in the hands of the supreme authority in the Saudi Royal Court, which decides and then discusses the increase.”
