The death toll of a stampede in front of a football stadium rises to eight in Cameroon

Eight people were killed in a stampede outside a football stadium in Yaounde, the Cameroon capital, before the start of an African Nations Cup match on Monday night, according to a preliminary report from the Ministry of Health. “There were eight deaths of two women and four men, all in their thirties, as well as a child and a dead body taken by family members,” the report said. 
 
The incident occurred on Monday, before the host country’s match in the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations against the Comoros, according to state television in the Central African country. 
 
The report says dozens of others were injured. The images circulated on social media, which Reuters has not yet been able to verify, showed fans screaming and being crushed at the entrance gate. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) stated in a statement that you are aware of an accident at the stadium. “The CAF is currently investigating the situation and is trying to get more details on what happened,” the note read.
