The World Health Organization confirmed today, Thursday that corona infections rose by 89% in the eastern Mediterranean region in the first week of January.
A World Health Organization official said, "Covid-19 cases rose by 89 percent in the Eastern Mediterranean region in the first week of January, compared to the previous week, but deaths decreased by 13 percent.".
Ahmed Al-Mandhari, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, stated that, "Out of 22 countries in the region, mostly Middle Eastern countries, 15 countries have recorded Omicron cases, according to what was reported by "Reuters" news agency.
He said, "Six countries in the region have vaccinated less than 10 percent of its population.
